On Saturday afternoon, I took our newest additions up the hill for planting. The hill faces East and backs up to forest further up the hill.

I planted three types of chestnuts and three types of blueberries.

The ultimate goal is to have enough nuts and berries to replace the need to ever buy them again. Canning and preserving skills will have to be developed as they fruit.

Finding a place to dig was a challenge

After digging a shallow hole, I hit solid rock

The first chestnut planted was a “Sleeeping Giant”

The third chestnut planted was a “Layeroka”

This blueberry bush is a “Nero”
